The Green Building Council
of Australia (GBCA) is Australia's leading
authority on green building. The GBCA was established in 2002
to develop a sustainable property industry in Australia and drive
the adoption of green building practices.
In 2003 the GBCA launch the Green Star
environmental rating system which evaluates the green attributes of
building projects.
The Green Star - Education v1 rating tool
evaluates the environmental potential and integrated fitout of
schools and universities, as well as to assess major refurbishments
of existing facilities.
Green school building projects are awarded a Green Star rating
based on accumulating credit points in nine environmental impact
categories:
- Management
- Indoor Environment Quality
- Energy
- Transport
- Water
- Materials
- Land Use & Ecology
- Emissions
- Innovation
|
The Green Star - Education v1 tool also assesses
the building's potential as a green learning resource. This
tool can help schools and universities to reduce the environmental
impact of their buildings, improve student outcomes and teacher
morale, as well as achieve real cost savings.
